At Ellis Physical Therapy, we know that creating a treatment plan that's specific to each patient's needs is the most effective way to get positive results in the shortest amount of time. That's why we combine the use of the most technically advanced equipment with the individualized attention of our staff members to design individual treatment plans to suit the specific needs of each patient.

What You Need to Know
We are small enough to cater to each person’s individual needs, and large enough to treat a wide array of patients and clients. You can rest assured each of our physical therapists is a licensed professional, highly educated and trained in the area of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Our staff is compassionate about providing the highest quality of personal service while educating patients about their conditions and ways to improve, restore and maintain overall fitness and health. Each treatment plan we design is tailored to the needs of the individual.

Meet our Team

Kimberly Baker Hoover, CMPE, CPC, Office Manager
Kimberly Hoover is the Office Manager for Ellis Physical Therapy's 3 clinic locations. Ms. Hoover is the primary contact for the business. She oversees daily business operations including human resources, marketing, and accounting. She is a board Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) since 2007 and a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) since 1997. Ms. Hoover has 15 years experience in medical practice management, and has worked in various settings and roles in medical practices for over 20 years. Ms. Hoover is an active member of the state and national Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). She currently serves as Insurance and Legislative Chairperson for SCMGMA and Columbia Chapter. She has formerly served as SCMGMA Governor, Columbia Chapter President, and as MGMA Legislative Liaison.

Cynthia A. Ellis, PT, President
Cynthia Ellis Witherspoon, PT founded Ellis Physical Therapy Associates, Inc. in May of 1984. She has served as whole owner and President of the company since incorporating more than 23 years ago.

Ms. Ellis Witherspoon is a 1975 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. She practiced at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to Alexandria, Virginia in May 1976 where she was employed at National Orthopaedic Hospital (1976-1978). In 1978, she changed employment to Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic (1978-1984) in Arlington, Virginia, before relocating to South Carolina to begin her own private practice.

Ms. Ellis Witherspoon has served on the South Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners since 1990. She served as chair from 1996-2006. The position is appointed by the Governor of South Carolina.

Ms. Ellis Witherspoon is committed to providing high quality patient care to the Midlands community with a specific focus on patient satisfaction. She assures that each member of the Ellis PT team has the same commitment and dedication.

Adrianne R. Moyer, DPT
Adrianne Moyer, DPT is a New York native and Utica College graduate. She earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2007. Since obtaining her license to practice in South Carolina, she has relocated to Columbia to assume her current role on the Ellis PT team. She is a full time staff member and practices at the Garners Ferry Road location. Ms. Moyer is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and has a particular interest in neurological rehabilitation.

Walt Burnett, PTA
Walt became a full-time employee with Ellis PT in February 2012. Walt received his BS in Biology from the University of South Carolina in 2007. He then completed his PTA degree from Midlands Technical College in 2011. During his academic training, Walt performed rotations at Lexington Medical Center, Ellis Physical Therapy, and Wildewood Downs in Northeast Columbia. He is a Columbia native and has an interest in personal fitness and nutrition.

Shannon Hicks PT, DPT
Shannon earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of South Carolina-Aiken in May 2009 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine in April 2012. She is a full time staff member and practices at the Garners Ferry Road location. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the South Carolina chapter of the APTA, and has a strong interest in outpatient orthopedics with a focus on manual therapy procedures.
